Get Rid of Stiff Neck Pain Fast

Since the advent of the personal computer, stiff neck pain is all too common. If you wake up often with a stiff or sore neck, there are many things you can do to relieve your muscle pain. Even better, there are steps you can take to prevent your neck from becoming stiff in the first place.

To relieve neck pain, the first step is to determine what's causing it.

If you think your neck pain is triggered by exercise, then ice is a good step. Take an ice pack and wrap it in a towel. Apply it where it hurts. Ice the area for ten minutes and then rest for ten minutes. Then, ice it again for ten more minutes. Do this two or three times a day and it should cut down on your pain levels significantly.

If you think your neck stiffness comes from strain due to how you hold your head at work or how you sleep, then a different approach will work better. Try using a massage lotion containing lavender, calendula, or menthol (or any combination). Work the lotion into the stiff area when you get up in the morning or just after your shower. Use it as often as you need to throughout the day.

An even better solution is to prevent neck soreness from happening in the first place. If you typically have a sore neck the day after your exercise, try icing your neck immediately after your workout. This can stop soreness before it starts.

If you are often plagued by a stiff neck, your posture or your sleep position are probably to blame. Take a minute or two once an hour while at work to stretch your neck muscles. Pay attention to your posture and do your best to sit up straight during the day. Also, consider purchasing a new pillow. The pillow you use can have a tremendous effect on how your neck feels during the day—a good pillow is a great pillow investment.

Neck stiffness and pain can take a lot of enjoyment out of your day. You can use these strategies to reduce your pain and have more good days.

Stay well,
